Update 2-11-12
It's all about the volume! As predicted, the dimensions of SUPs are being changed rather radically in the past year. When we got into this sport, I cannot tell you how many people would ask us for 12' + boards. It was the standard back in 2009/2010. 11' is the new 12' and soon enough, 10' will be the recreational standard size. So how do you bring a board down 2' and keep the float & stability up? It's all about volume. Shorter and wider is the trend. It was common to have 12' x 29" SUPs 2 years ago. That size is soon to be in the SUP history file. Widen that rail and thicken up the center, that is how your get volume to float 200 - 300 pounds. Bring that rail out to 31"-34", add 1/4" -1/2" of thickness at your mid-point and there you go....volume! Our new line this spring will include this new size trend: 10' x 33" x 4.75" SYNERGY (April 2012) 10'6" x 32" x 5" SYNERGY (In stock) 10'6" x 31" x 4.5" ROGUE (April 2012) 10' x 34" x 4.5" COREBAN (February 2012) All the volume you want, none of the excess length you do not want! We will still have our 11'6" x 32" x 5" SYNERGY stock for those of you who put the whole family, dogs and coolers on your boards! More power to you! We will still carry the 11' x 36" x 5" Eko for those of you who do not want to get wet! You can't fall off this thing...it's the Paddilac! Want to SUPsurf? We always carry some progressive shapes from SYNERGY in the 8-9' range, quad fins, lots of rocker for those of you who rip. We will have Coreban Fusions in soon as well. Great vacuum bagged boards from Coreban that are SURF inspired. Want to SUPsurf and support a FL shaper? We have that covered too. We are now working with Stu Sharpe. The new shapes are in production and will be here in March. 7'6" x 31" x 4.25" quad (March 1, 2012) 8'6" x 31" x 4.5" quad (April 1, 2012) 9'6" x 32" x 4.75" quad (April 1, 2012) These SS shapes will be performance shapes. Pin tails and all the volume you need in the nose to keep you stable. Quad fin + 1 set ups for quick turns. Plenty of rocker for steep drops. As always, we will have DEMO boards of anything we sell! You cannot be expected to drop big money and wonder if you made the right choice. So.....shorter, wider & lighter is whats happening. Evolve with the sport you love, don't get stuck with SUP-A-Saurus! Big & heavy is soon to be extinct, part of the SUP history file. We have plenty of SUPs in stock now, usually about 30 boards in stock, we have you covered! Update 1-8-12
The SUP raffle! We sincerely want to thank all of you who participated in the SUP raffle to support 2 charities. We were so excited to see people step up and donate. There was of course a prize at stake, but, we had people donate who had no interest whatsoever in the sport we all love. They donated simply because they wanted to help. There was one donation that stood out. A very nice girl came in 20 minutes late for the raffle. She knew the raffle was over, the winner was chosen and she obviously had no chance of winning. She politely came to the counter and asked if she could still buy a ticket. It was important to her that she gave to a worthy cause. This is the spirit of giving. Little gestures go a long way. Many of you know that we offered a 10% discount to anyone who bought a raffle ticket for the remainder of the month. This polite young woman did not ask for the discount, she just wanted to donate and be part of something special. Pretty cool huh? Yes, she gets the discount! Don't get us wrong, there are plenty of stories that came out of the last 2 months of raffle entries. This one just stood out. To all the friends and regulars, your support means so much to us. Once again, thanks! Giving a check to charity really feels good. Getting involved in community really feels good. Helping really feels good. We plan on doing this again soon as there are so many people and charities that need a helping hand. Have an idea? We are open to it. SUP Sundays at Loggerhead. Seems Loggerhead is turning into the SUP meet up location in our area. Everybody knows that Juno-Jupiter-Hobe Sound are hot spots for SUP. Clear waters, plenty of access points, waves, manatees, etc. The crowd that has been showing up on Sundays at Loggerhead is a very inviting crowd. As many of you know, we bring the DEMO SUPs down on the beach and let people try them out most Sundays. A lot of people are starting to show up with thier own SUPs just to hang with like minded people. Peopel are sharing tips, techniques, comparing equipment and simply making new friends. People are always into sharing equipment and willing to help out. This is exactly why we started to advertise SUP Sundays at Loggerhead. Everyone is welcome.....experienced, newbie, young, old, curious, scared, whatever, come on down. We will post if we will be there based on weather conditions by 8:00 on Sunday mornings. Please get with us on Facebook to stay updated. Search us under Florida Paddleboards, Juno Beach. A few tips for you.... Please do not paddle in front of the lifeguard area! We want to be welcome here and we want to be safe! There are two white markers in front of the lifeguards stand. Please stay away from them. A 30 pound SUP and a swimmer meeting up will not be good! Its all about safety! The lifeguards are great and they are there for your safety. If you have any questions as to where you can paddle, please ask them. Please use a leash! SUPs are big and can get away from you! Once again its all about safety! Please respect the surfing crowd. As a surfer, the worst thing you can do is drop in on people, get in the way or not use a leash in the waves. Our sport is growing and we want to share the ocean with all that use it in a safe way. I always suggest staying away from the crowded surf spot. There are plenty of areas along Loggerhead to spread out. Enjoy your week, stay safe and thanks for supporting!
Ok, as usual, I make a promise that I will update this more often but I get busy and do not. We have good reason though. We are now in the new store at our Juno Beach location. We opened up on November 8th, 2011. We are located in the Loggerhead Plaza across from Loggerhead Beach (turtle hospital) on US 1, Juno Beach. The location is ideal for us. The beach is near, the plaza is busy and we are much easier to find than before. Come by and say hello. We have two large shipments that just came in, plenty of accessories and we are adding new things each week. Here are a few things that may be of immediate interest: 1. WIN A FREE SUP! check the tab on the main page for more details. 2. New SUP payment plan that gets you on a SUP with only 25% down.....sick deal. We started the payment plan and we plan on leading the pack with it. We know SUPs are expensive but well worth the investment. We live in paradise when it comes to SUP conditions. Take advantage of our great prices and flexible payment plan. Click the "payment plan" tab on the main page. 3. The new line of Synergy Board t-shirts will be in by 11-20-11. Great gift idea for the holidays. 4. Rentals!!!! Our rental SUP inventory will be growing over the winter. When you rent with Florida Paddleboards we hook you up. First off, great prices on your rentals. Check the "rental" tab on the main page. Second off, we allow you to take the board where you want to go. We have soft racks that come with the rental so no need to worry about not having a car/truck rack. We have your covered. 5. DEMO boards! If we sell it, we have a DEMO board for you to try. Try before you buy! You can't make that purchase without trying it. Don't make a huge mistake. We want to thank all of you who have supported us in our efforts to expand. Without you we could not have done it. We are excited to grow and continue to be a part of the community. Thanks again!
Update 10-4-11 Big news folks.......NEW store location in November. We have been waiting for the right spot and of course the right price to come available. We are determined to always offer quality SUPs at very reasonable rates. We certainly did not want to have tack on additional retail costs to the customer just because we will be in a better spot. Our increased production volume and savy retail space negotiations will allow us to stay well below the avarage retail price point of most SUPs. Our new lines coming in mid October and mid November will sport some unreal graphics, be self venting and lighter. We will offer ALL our 10'6" SYNERGY models (graphics) at $999.00. There are plenty of boring SUPs on the market for $999.00.....are you boring? We will also carry a few additional lines late this year. Eko SUPs, Pau Hana and Coreban will start to fill our racks as well in Juno Beach. Our board room capacity will be up to 70 SUPs....quite a selection! We are absolutely thrilled to join the ranks of businesses in Juno Beach and be a part of the Juno Beach community. Noteworthy item.........SUP RAFFLE!!!!! Many of you know Jeff Beige in the Palm Beach area. Jeff is an accomplished kite surfer, surfer, paddleboarding, photographer and the list goes on. Jeff is currently undergoing intense medical treatments up in Kansas that are extremely costly. His treatments are similar to chemotherapy infusions. The good news is that Jeff is doing well and making great progress. The bad news is the cost. We are trying to do our part by selling tickets to one of our "turtle" SUPs at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach. The tickets will be available around 10-15-11 until 12-15-11 for $10.00 per ticket. You can purchase tickets at our shop locations as well as Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The proceeds will be split between Jeff's medical treatment costs and the Loggerhead Marinelife Center! Help a friend and help the center! We will certainly give you more details on both the raffle and the new store location in the coming weeks. Stay tuned! Thank you for the support!
Upadate 9-5-11 (Labor Day) So the summer is over :( ......... NOT...we live in Florida and the best time of year is just staring. Mid to upper 80's, water temps in the lower 80's and plenty of sun....sure seems like summer to us. Fall is the perfect time to get on a SUP and the waves have started to pick up as well. flat water or waves, we have you covered. 90% of our SUP are hybrids. Plenty of nose rocker and a bit of tail rocker to keep you gliding on the flats but also able to take drops in the waves. We also have plenty of SUPs that are designed specifically for waves. We make our 27 N SUPsurf model that absolutely rips. The 27 N is 9' x 31" x 4.5", 17 pounds with a rounded pin tail. Add this to your quiver for the fall/winter. The 27 N is a steal at $1,299.00 and is made in the USA! Support your local shapers, have a little American pride and rip harder than the rest of the chumps in when the waves pick up. I personally used this model in the Summer SUP Throwdown on August 27 up in Indiatlantic, FL. The conditions were epic and the board performed. Come by the shop and take out the demo model we have, you will fall in love with it. We have decided to extend the payment plan as it has been a big success. 50% down, take your SUP! (3) equal payments ovder 90 days! Nobody has this deal! If anyone else is doing a payment plan....they are ripping you off with interest! NO INTEREST on our payment plan. We want to see you on the water and we want you to spread the word on our 27 N and Synergy SUPS! Have fun, stay safe and come pay us a visit.
UPDATE 8-15-11
New SUPsurf shape on the rack 8-16-11. We have 10' and 10'6" models available for DEMO on the SUPsurf shape. Increased nose rocker, narrowed nose and thinner blunt tail for a better ride in bigger waves! Waves season is coming, try one out! Big news on our end is that we will be moving our retail warehouse to a retail store location on US 1. Our goal has always been to keep the price point down and we will. We did our negotiation on the lease end to make sure our prices are below the area and industry average. We will be adding a couple of new SUP lines, rentals and of course carry all the accessories that you need in a pinch. We will post the updates as they come through. Look for the new location to open around November 1, 2011.
UPDATE 7-5-11 As always, we can never seem to update this as frequently as we should. Summer is in full swing and we are busy. It appears there is no stopping the SUP movement in FL. You buy a SUP and then your friends and family are jealous it seems? Sound familiar? We have increased the order sizes as of late as we want to make sure we have the inventory for later summer and fall. September to November are extremely nice here in S. FL. We will make sure we have a nice inventory for you. SUPsurf models arrive 8-15-11. We are only getting 10 in on this shipment to see how you take to them. We will have plenty more in by October/November when we get into our wave season. What makes a SUP a SUPsurf style? It is basically in the shape. We have pinched the rails, increased the rocker on the nose and tail (rocker = term for angle) and made narrower noses. In other words the SUP is not as flat and round nosed as most of the standard styles you are used to. We will always carry both shapes, not to worry. We live in an area that is perfect for moth flat water SUP and SUPsurf. As you all get more comfortable on your SUPs on the flat water, you natrually want to get into the waves. We have the shapes you need. Come talk to us about it. lastly, we introduced a payment program. I have to say we may have been "slightly" unprepared for the response. We are all set now and are ramping up inventory. Apparently you all want to get on yoru SUPs now and pay over 90 days. The American dream right? Fun now, pay later! We can't blame you on this one though. You simply cannot let summer/fall pass you by without a SUP. Perhaps you just discovered SUP and have not had the time to save up. No worries, come up with 50% and pay the rest in 3 equal payments over 90 days. We want to see you have fun and this is a good way to do it. Have fun, stay safe and see you on the water. Florida Paddleboards 561 281 3823
UPDATE 6-11-11 We always say we will update this every week but life, work, fun, etc. just take over our time! So, big news here is the new summer SUP arrivals. They are due in June 20th (give or take a couple of days. There is a peek of them a few blogs back (scroll down). We hope to have them unpacked on on the rack for you June 22nd. The minute they are out of the boxes and on the rack we will post on www.flpaddleboards.com and our Facebook page. Not a Facebook friend of ours? Our link is on our home page on www.flpaddleboards.com We always keep you update daily on our Facebook page with ocean conditions, sales, local events, etc. Get connected, everyone else is! Waves.....the string of Sundays with waves looks like it has come to an end. I am pretty sure it was about 7 Sundays in a row that were "SUPsurf-able" (new word in the coast dictionary...not to be confused with the urban dictionary). We will certainly try to find a waves tomorrow (6-12-11) but it might be stretching it. We always post the waves we find Sunday evening our our Facebook page. Did I mention out Facebook page yet? "Friend us" and you will see what you missed on the beach Sunday or maybe even see a photo of you! we typically plant our feet in the sand at Loggerhead (Juno Beach). We try not to keep our feet in the sand too long though.......A: it's too hot and B: we go to get in the water. We hope to meet you there. We cannot guarantee we will always be there every Sunday but there is usually a group of SUP'rs at some capacity. We keep it low key..no flags, not tents, no sales.....just hang out with those who have SUPs and those who want to learn. Go ahead and introduce yourself as we are willing to bet you will make a new friend with a common interest. Once again (and not for the last time)....join us on Facebook and you will stay in the loop with regards to Sundays at the beach and any other events happening in the area. I have created a SUPsurf page on our Facebook page as well. As many of you know, my heart in this sport is riding waves. I try to keep the SUPsurfing page updated anytime there are waves. I usually post where I will be for a SUPsurf session. Some days are short notice, some days are future predictions and some days I get it wrong and there are no waves! Nobody is perfect...neither are the computer waves models. We are getting a shipment of 27 N full carbon adjustable paddles in about the same time our new board arrivals come in (June 20-22nd). For the money ($199), this is a great paddle! I have tested them in the surf and very windy conditions. I basically abuse mine and it has passed the test. Come demo one when they come in. Enjoy your weekends, get some quality beach and family time and let us know if you need anything or any advice! Always glad to help! Florida Paddleboards 561 281 3823
UPDATE 5-21-11
Hey all, Time for an update! The summer weather patterns are upon us. It is getting hot out! The ocean has calmed down (bad for SUPsurfers and surfers), good for all you flat water dreamers. Looks like the hurricane season will be active however. Let's hope the storms stay far enough out in the Atlantic to give us swell and no damage. Back to the summer season as I said. Glassy water, great visibility, hot & humid weather! Get on it early in the day as the thunder storms will be starting soon. There is nothing like getting caught in a thunder stormm half way through your paddle. Make sure you take a peek at the radar before you go! We are getting low on inventory but fret not.....new shipment of boards will be in about June 20th. We have created some extremely unique designs to catch your eye this summer. We know you all want something that your friend (or enemy) does not have. Like fish, turtles, dolphins? Good! We have them coming in on this shipment. Like the price point under $1,000? Good, most of them will be just that.....$999!!!!! Here is a peek...scroll to the right and left to view all of them!
So, what do you think? Come and get them as they won't last. We always want to push it when it comes to keeping the ideas fresh. We can always do custom boards for you as well. Have a graphic that you want to personalize your SUP? Email us the graphic and we can make you a SUP specific to your size, color and graphics. We won't rake you over the coals for a custom as well. Most custom SUPs are priced the same as our floor models. You will have to to coincide your custom order with one of our large orders. Our next big order will be placed about July 10th so get with us soon if you want to get working on your custom order. Contact us at sales@flpaddleboards.com for customs. Ok, that is enough info for now...customers are here! Enjoy your weekend! Florida Paddleboards
Hey all.....we always have to apologize for not updating this more often! The season is in full swing, hence extremely busy with the shop and weekend events. Claudete is here during the week to help you out (Wednesday - Friday) and I (Mike) am here Saturday (8-3pm). Come on by and talk SUP with us. We have plenty of boards in stock currently and a few used SUPs. We get calls daily for used SUPs. We have a 9'4" and a 10' as of this post. We will be letting our other DEMOs go the first week in June (10'6", 11' and 11'6"). Our next shipment is coming in approximately June 15th. If you are interested in one of the used SUPs, come on by, take it for a spin and put a deposit down if you like it. First come, first serve on used SUPs (they go fast). Most used SUPs will be priced in the $600 - $650 range. As of now, there is no waiting list on the used, get on the list! On to events...... We had a blast at the Mother Earth by The Sea Festival last weekend (April 30th). It was great to see so many people come out to support a great cause. True to the supportive SUP community...we had about 4 SUP vendors present, tent next to tent and we all got along great! Blueline, Ark, Ocean Magic and Florida Paddleboards spreading the fun! I have to say the the vibe was all good....plenty of customers for all of us as we are convinced that all of Florida will be on SUPs soon! As a surfer, I actually do not want to see that...the water would be a bit too crowded...rail to rail SUPsurfing = not fun! That brings me to an important factor in the surf with yoru SUP. Please be respectfull of the local breaks, local beaches and of course the local surf community. Most of you SUPsurfers are just getting into riding waves and many of you did not grow up as surfers. There are "rules" in the water...we suggest you learn from someone who understands the "rules". What I am getting at is...don't head out SUPsurfing at the pier or one of our best surf spots if you do not know what you are doing. There is plenty of beach and plenty of waves spread out. SUPsurfing requires some distance between you and your fellow surfers and SUPsurfers. It also requires knowledge of how waves break, currents and general respect for the ocean. Spread out, make sure you have a leash and by all means respect the local surf community. As a life long surfer I always found that if you give respect, you will gain respect...it takes time my friends! We do not want to see anyone get hurt out there and we certainly do not want you to make enemies by crowding spots that are already overcrowded when the surf picks up. SUPs are big, SUPs are heavy and SUPs can do some serious damage! Are we all on board? Good! That being said, I will be riding a few small waves Sunday am at Loggerhead. Waves will be about 1-2', hopefully a few bigger sets. It should be a good day to learn to SUPsurf. I will be there about 8:30 am. DEALS???? We have the Flower Girls on sale. You get a free full carbon paddle with the Flower Girl SUP this Saturday in honor of Mother's Day. Buy your Mom some flowers! We have some coupons in the shop too......come on by....if we like you...we will give you one! We like most people! Hey....have fun this weekend, enjoy Mother's Day! After all, she put you on the planet, she controls the Earth (Mother Earth) and she more than likely made you who you are! Here is to MOM! Love you Mom!
Busy, busy busy is where we are at. The season is here for all you true Floridians to get wet. Air temps in the 80's and water in the mid and upper 70's is apparently what you were waiting for. It seems the flood gates have opened the past couple of weeks. From a business perspective, we are obviously happy. From a fun perspective, we are thrilled for you. I am not sure how so many of you manage to get the water time you do all week. I am impressed to say the least. The sport we we love (SUP and let's not forget surfing) allows us to make time for our healthy addiction. Priorities.....right? Don't forget your families and your financial responsibilities during the week. We will need repeat customers at some point. If you have lost your jobs and your family is upset with you it will put a damper on the fun! The weather is absolutely perfect this weekend. Mid to upper 80's, calm winds, no t-storms and SUN. We plan on being at Loggerhead for a while on Sunday with some DEMO boards. We have family in town so we will have to juggle the first time SUPers and make sure we spend that valuable time with our family. We like to meet new people so do not feel like you are imposing just becasue we have family in town. Maybe I will get my parents out there on the water Sunday??? We have been talking about locally made SUPs for a while. Our creation will be ready by May 1, 2011 for you to see (and try). Price point will be a bit higher than our current inventory prices, but we have to give you what you want. We have a high demand for locally made boards. Supporting local shapers and local businesses is big for us. I think the trend will continue in the years to come. There are so many factors going into world commerce.....keeping it local is ultimatley the solution if we want to continue growing our SUP business. Ask us about USA boards this summer or when you come in. We will still carry foreign made boards to keep pricing options for all our customers. The market is still young and so many of you are just trying to figure out what you want. Size, shapes, weights & graphics are all huge factors when you are a newbie. You will then start to figure out what you really want and invest the time and money into it once you do figure it out. I went throught this process as a surfer growing up and did it again as a paddler. If it was up to me, you all would be surfing on your SUPs! The point here is.....give us your feedback, talk "shop" with us and we will get you on the board that makes the most sense for your ability and the direction you want to go in the sport. You may want a big, beefy 12' SUP now and realize you bought too big, too heavy or can't surf on it. We have the knowledge to evaluate you and your goals in the sport. Is everyone going to the Mother Earth by the Sea Festival on April 30th? Put it in your plans, it will be fun. www.motherearthbytheseafestival.com
We will also be at Loggerhead Beach Park with more frequency on Sundays now that the weather is getting consistent. Check our Facebook Page under "Florida Paddleboards" for updates on where we are each week or join us on www.meetup.com Search under SUP in Jupiter, FL. We are the Palm Beach Paddleboard Group. We schedule events throughout the month where you can try DEMO models and get tips on paddling on flat water and in the surf. Enjoy your time on the water and call us if you need anything! Florida Paddleboards 561 281 3823
UPDATE 3-19-11............... So it has been a couple of weeks since we updated the blog. We have been flat out busy. Our new shipment came in on the 9th and we have been unpacking, shipping and selling SUPs like crazy. Typically we do not see the big push until mid April when the weather is officially warm (by FL standards). You brave souls are getting out in the cool 74 degree water and 80 degree air. How do you do it???? If there are any nothern SUP'ers reading this blog, you probably just gave us single finger salute. It was rough up north this winter....we really do feel for you. Ok, back to the shipment we just got in. The SUPs look great! We have more "Woodys" in stock in a couple of different versions this time. We have a pin tail "Woody" in 10'6" x 31" x 4.75" that will be great for you bigger guys who want to SUPsurf. Check the boards out on the main page for photos on this style. We are going to keep this style going for our next shipment and offer a 9'4" model for you rippers. Big talk with the ladies has been the "Flower girl" models. They are getting a lot of interest. We have them in both 10' and 10'6" (pink and blue). Graphics are the direction we are going in the future as well. We will of course carry traditional styles (simple clean lines) but many of you like unique, custom style SUPs. Cool things to come, trust us! SUPsurf Sundays are back in action. We will for the most part be at Loggerhead Park in Juno Beach on Sundays. Mornings are usually calmer with less wind for those of you who want to try out SUP'n, talk SUP or just hang on the beach with some like minded paddlers. It is casual, nothing organized, no pressure kind of day..........just come on and introduce yourself! We always post some weather conditions and if SUPsurf Sunday is "officially" a go each Saturday by 8:00 pm............so check our Facebook page for the details. Add us as a "friend" and you will be just that......a friend! There is a FB link on our main page or search us under "Florida Paddleboards". There is also a link to our SUP Meetup.com group. We have organized events for all SUP levels. Check it out, sign up and we will see you then. By the way, Monday - Wednesday am there is a good chance for some swell. It's not looking epic by any stretch, but waves none the less. It should pick up Monday with some chest high wind driven waves and improve. Keep your eye on the winds. There looks like a small window of SW wind and/or lighter winds during this time period of Monday -Wednesday. Now that it is light out in the evenings, many of you can get some water time in after work. So...........come on by the shop and say hello, check out the new SUP line from Synergy and of course, take us up on FREE DEMO board time. We ask that you limit your time to about an hour on the water. You will need a vehicle that can transport a SUP as we are NOT on the water. Enjoy your week, enjoy your friends and family and by all means get some water time.......it's therapy! Florida Paddleboads, Jupiter, FL 561 281 3823
UPDATE 3-6-11---------------------- Hey SUP'ers, Big things happening this week. First off, new SUPs will be in stock. As promissed we will have some really unique looks on the new line. We are also stocking SURF inspired shapes on some of the new line. Personally, I am extremely excited about the short SUPs as I am getting very comfortable in the surf and want to push some boundaries as SUPsurfing gains popularity in our area. We will be open Wednesday (3-9-11) to show you the new line. Check the hours tab on the main page for normal shop hours during the week/weekend. We are still keeping the price point low by comparision. We will have inventory starting at $649.00 and up to $1,049.00 for NEW SUPs. DEMO boards will be available for your use on all the new shapes. Come on by and sign one out for an hour. We are normally at Loggerhead Park, Juno Beach on Sundays which is another good opportunity to DEMO the SYNERGY SUPs. Make sure you join our Facebook page or our Meetup.com paddle group. Just search us under "Florida Paddleboards" on Facebook or search "SUP" or "Stand Up Paddleboard" on meetup.com. We make sure both sites are updated regularly so you have plenty of opportunities to paddle, check out our equipment and meet new people. The surf is looking good this week with most days offering some waves to ride. Late week looks nice (Friday-Sunday) with some decent wasit + surf and light winds. Long range but promissing! Intracoastal paddling looks better this week as well. The wind will not be nearly as strong as it was last week. I don't know about you but the wind was getting to me a bit. After a long week I decided to hit the surf anyhow on my 10' SUP. We had some friends in town so we said what the heck, lets go out. The surf on Saturday was 4-6' with some + sets and ESE wind at 25 mph. Not my idea of a great time but I do like a challenge. I made it out, took one wave and said "no thanks" on paddling back out. The drift was unreal....from Loggerhead to the pier in about 15 minutes. Today on the other hand was what I wait for. 2-4' and fairly clean this am. Check out Facebook page for some pics of today. We also want to direct your attention to a festival happening April 30th in our area. Check the following link for what should be a great time. We will be there of course and racing in the relay events. We are not racers at all but this is for a great cause. First, last or in the middle, just being at events that get the community together are what it is all about. We hope to see you there. www.motherearthbytheseafestival.com
We hope you all have a great week. Make sure you check out the new SUP arrivals this week. Florida Paddleboards
Update----------February 19, 2011 Hey all.....sorry we have not updated in a bit as we have been travelling. We take a trip each year to see family in Brazil. We are fortunate to have some family in some pretty nice places (Cape Cod, MA, Brazil & San Diego, CA). Lucky for them, they also have a pretty nice place to visit here in Palm Beach County, FL! I am not sure how many of you have been to Brazil but put it on your list if you have not. I have been going for about 6 years since I met my wife here. The culture in Brazil holds a tremendous value in history and old world charm, yet is constantly advancing in world economics and looking towards greener futures. If you are the type of traveler that enjoys a challenge with regards to exploring, embracing a completely new expericenc, love the beach and outdoor activities and learning a new language....Brazil is for you! The SUP movement in Brazil is growing fast as well. Brazil has had an explosive growth in surf culture in the past decades and now it looks like the SUP culture is charging along. SUP equipment costs are expensive but we at Florida Paddleboards have a few connections that we will begin to explore. We hope to get some quality SUP time in on our next trip to Brazil. Ok, some other news...... Our latest shipment of SYNERGY SUPs will be in the first week of March. It is looking like around the 7th in the warehouse. We will post all the new pics and pricing as soon as we unpack the boxes! There are some really unique SUPs on this order. We have dabbled in some graphic technology and will offer high end graphics at very reasonalble prices. USA SUPs???? Yes! Since we got into this business, we have racked our brain on how to get a quality USA SUP made and keep the price low. We simply could not sustain a business based on the production costs back in 2008 in the USA. The sport was so new in FL back then that the retail prices would have been well over $1,700.00 for a basic SUP made in the USA. Now, things have changed.....the sport is popular, there is plenty of euqipment on the market and people are more realistic. I sincerely want to support local shapers as this is an ART. Now that we know the business well and have a very good grasp on what you want, we are ready to shift our business model to local shaping. We are currently in the production phase of a prototype that will offer just that...quality and low price. Testing of the prototype should be taking place in late March and production should be taking place in April. If all goes well, we will have them in stock by May, 2011 (just in time for Summer)! We will update you on the blog and our Facebook page as details continue to unfold. This is extremely exciting for Florida Paddleboards and the SUP community. We are of course not the first SUP company to offer USA boards; we strive to be first in quality and value however! The weather is shifting and becoming absolutely perfect lately. Low 80's and 60's at night, the word "perfect" comes to mind. Get out and enjoy the sun and warmth. It will only get warmer in the coming months....no excuses not to enjoy our paradise! Thanks for your support! Florida Paddleboards, Ltd.
update------January 29, 2011 Thanks to all of you who are making January a great sales month. As we have said, January is typically not our best selling month for a variety of reasons 1. chilly (not really, but it kinda is) 2. you just got your credit card bills from Christmas! 3. lack of daylight length (good news...gaining time each day)
Ok, so your excuses are probably above...we have made it a bit easier to get into the sport of SUP this month with the sale (15% off all NEW SUPs). We are open Saturday 9am - 3pm and by appointment Sunday (30th). Just give us a call (561) 281 3823. We are usually near by and can let you in to save. We are doing a demo today from 3-6 pm at Phil Foster Park. This is the park that is located at the Blue Heron bridge (Peanut Island). We will have SUPs on hand for you to try out. The water is clear, the sun is out and the tide is high. Come on by to try them out, say hello, ask questions...etc. SUPsurf Sunday is still growing (assuming there are waves). We had a good string of Sundays with waves. This week (30th), not so much. Juno Beach (Loggerhead Marine Wildlife) is a nice spot to SUP or SUPsurf. We are usually there on the beach down to the north about 75 yards. Some Sundays there are 15-20 people out there SUPing and some there are just a few. Come on by! We usually have a few extra boards for you to try out (no charge, no pressure!) We can get you started with the basics. You are on your own with your new addiction after that though! We will not be there the next couple of Sundays as we are traveling (Brazil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Hey, its a public beach, so come on down. You will more than likely find a few SUP'rs that are more than willing to let you try a SUP out. Until the next time we blog....stay safe, enjoy the weather (and waves hopefully). See you at Phil Foster, Juno Beach and around town! Florida Paddleboards Update ------January 22, 2011! Sorry we have not updated the blog as of late. Busy busy busy! Let's reflect on the weather so far in January...not bad at all. It has been a pretty good month for waves (not epic but not bad). Sunday the 23rd looks like a nice swell in the waist to chest+ range with some decent period length. Let's hope the wind does not mess with it too bad. As always...we will be at Juno Beach (Loggerhead Marine Life Park entrance). We love to SUPsurf and hang with a growing crowd on Sundays. Hope to see you there. Typically we bring a few extra SYNERGY SUPs for you to try if the ocean conditions are in the <3' range. If the waves are bigger, we ask that you bring your own or have some decent surf experience. We are thinking safety first! We don't want to put you into an environment that will lend to injuries. Many of you have gotten into SUP this past year and have very little to no surfing experience. Jumping into chest high surf with a SUP and no surfing experience will more than likely result in you getting injured, injuring someone else or damaging your equipment. That said, we will always post the conditions on our Facebook page by Saturday so you know what to expect.
On the the January sale. It is ridiculous that we are able to offer NEW SUPS at prices almost half of what the competition is advertising. We are a large volume, low margin retailer of our own quality SUPs. We want you to get a good deal on quality equipment. There is not need to spend $1,300 + on packages. We will always offer SUPs starting in the $600 range and stand behind our boards! Our goal has always been to sustain a business that is looked at as one of the leaders in our industry, offers quality, fair priced products and builds friendships. It is all that and more! Be sure to join oru facebook page, take advantage of our local events and stop by to see us! Enjoy your weekend! Florida Paddleboards UPDATE.....January 8, 2011 On to the new year of 2011, or twenty ten as most people say. A chilly December kept some of you out of the water and to be honest we were starting to thing each week would bring us a cold blast this winter. Yes, all in all, cold is all relative....but 30's and 40's keep many of you out of the water. We want to see you enjoying the beach, waves, etc. Cool crisp mornings are great to get the energy flowing as long as they are followed by some sunny warmth! This weekend looks like a winner as far as the weather goes. We had a swell sneak in Friday afternoon (missed that one), Saturday looks like a great day of sun and low 70's and Sunday will bring some more waves along with that sun and low 70's! Florida is great in the winter! Join us at Loggerhead, Juno Beach on Sunday. We are a causal bunch and normally hang there SUP surfing on Sundays. Mike (owner), William (everybody knows William) and a handful of others tend to show up on Sundays if the surf is decent. Stay all day or just drop on by....after all, it is Sunday. We usually bring a couple of extra boards in case someone want to demo a SYNERGY sup in the waves. We are very excited about some of the new additions coming to our SUP quiver mid-late February. As the sprot progresses in our area (and it is), we want to push and progress the shapes. I cannot tell you how many of you come in to the warehouse and say "I just plan on paddling flat water". Trust me, you will push yourself and get out in the surf once you see someone having a blast in the waves on a SUP. I have surfed for 30+ years and the learning curve on a SUP is so much faster than on a traditional surfboard. (no, I am not that old, I just started at a very youn age). The biggest factor for those of you who have little surf or wave experience is SAFETY!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. SUPs are 25 - 35 pounds of hard epoxy. If you do not know how to position yourself in the line up, get in and out of the water properly or keep your distance from other paddlers, surfers or swimmers...you can get seriously injured or injure someone else. We hope to see you on Sundays at Loggerhead! On to our inventory........ We have a good selection of SUPs and accessories in stock. January is our slow month, so we have decided to discount our inventory prior to our new arrivals. Take advantage of the sale and check our our "SALE" tab on the website. There are some serious deals in the warehouse now. >>>>full carbon paddles for $165 >>>>SUPs starting at $495 (used) & $695 (new) Come on by and pick our brains about SUP. Our hours are limited over the winter so please be sure to check the "HOURS & DIRECTIONS" tab on the website. ENJOY THE WEEKEND!
Sooooooooo, it is December 31st, 2010! Generally, most people reflect on this past year, make resolutions for the next year or start planning goals. We at Florida Paddleboards have had an extremely good year. First off, we are healthy and our family is as well. We wish all of you and your family members health, happiness and prosperity in 2011. Secondly, we had an amazing first year in business. We decided to get into the SUP business mainly due to our love of the ocean and the people that are attached to the ocean. We did not really have any expectations beyond "not losing $$$$$" and "not letting a business tear apart a family". Check & check! Beyond that, we are overwhelmed with the support of our customers and now friends. We are actually low on inventory due to a very busy holiday season (a nightmare in the retail business)........but that means we exceeded our expectations on sales! Fear not, we have more SUPs and plenty of new items arriving soon! Our 2011 arrivals include Soft Top SUPs, "Flower Girl" SUPs, "Tribal" SUPs, "SURF" inspired SUPs and much more. Check out the "Flower Girl"....
We are excited about this new technology we are working with that will enable us to pretty much put any graphic glassed within the deck. Needless to say, we will have some very original SUPs hitting the market in 2011. We will be introducing custom SUPs (made locally). We understand the demand and the price point that is needed to keep production in the USA and more importantly...local. Exploring & supporting local options is on the top of our list for goals in 2011. We will continue to keep SUPs in the affordable to very affordable price point! Selling SUPs for well over$1,000 is simply not needed for our business to be successful. Our foucs will remain on providing quality SUPs & equipment at very fair prices. Cheer! Happy New Year! from FL Paddleboards!
Summer 0f 2011 should bring some very exciting news regarding our expansion as well. We will keep this under wraps for a few more months as we fine tune the details...keeping secrets is hard for us. So, we say good-bye to 2010 and welcome 2011! We sincerely want to thank all of you for your support! We cannot wait to spend more time with all of you in the beautiful waters of Florida in 2011. December 19, 2010 Happy Holidays! First of all.....we want to thank everyone for a fantastic holiday SUP season. Interest in our Synergy SUP line and ultimately sales have been beyond expectations. You should pat yourself on the back for being so generous. We have had people buying boards for significant others, for kids, for wall art!?!?!?!?! and even for good friends! Bad economy? It just goes to show you that if you want something bad enough you find a way to pull it off. I think many of you have realized now that once you get on a SUP, the interest in the sport only increases. Once you get on a SUP and surf a few waves.....even better! SUP becomes a lifestyle for many of our buyers. We find that most of our buyers become friends and ultimately end up networking with other SUP enthusiasts to share stories, tips and fun times. We at Florida Paddleboards cannot wait until 2011 gets here. We will introduce some great new looks and great new shapes early on in 2011. The sport of SUP is progressing fast. 2007 through 2010 have really been the learning curve for equipment in our region. As many of you are now well past the beginner-intermediate phase of SUP you now have the answers to the questions you first had. As you progress, you understand how dimmensions, shapes, materials impact your performance. We feel that our region in Florida (Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast) are a great proving ground for progressive shapes. Surf SUPs will only grow in popularity in 2011 and we plan to be on it. We have been working closely with our production facility and shapers to come up with some great SURF SUPs. Our first Synergy SUP to be exclusively for waves will be introduced mid February 2011. To date, our Synergy SUP line has been a hybrid line to get you standing in all water conditions. We will certainly carry a good selection of hybrid SUPs moving forward, however we want to make sure we have what the local SUP population craves in the waves! We will also be introducing a racing line by summer 2011. Some of you SUP addicts just have to have a SUP for all occasions. We look forward to working with your creative minds. If you have an idea, come on by and let's talk about it. We can do custom SUPs at very reasonable prices. In most cases, our custom SUPs will be the same price as our in stock line. The down side? You have to wait about 70 - 90 days for a custom SUP. Lastly, we will stock soft top SUPs come summer. We are starting to work with some area resorts and will stock soft top SUPs for them. We can custom logo for the resorts on soft tops SUPs. We will keep some soft tops for retail as well. A quality soft top SUP for $599.00 is in the works! So.......here is to bigger and better things in 2011! February 2011...Surf SUPs, "Flower Girl" SUPs and "Tribal" Synergy SUPs are due in! June 2011....Soft Top SUPs and race inspired SUPs are in!
December 11, 2010, Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter,FL Happy Holiday all........... Waves again for Saturday (11th)!!! It has been a good run this last week + for swell with offshore winds. This weekend is turning out to be absolutely beautiful....light winds, small - medium surf and warmth! Looks like we turn chilly-cold Monday again :( At least we have the weekend to take advantage of! We are planning to actually pull off our "Beach Day" event on Sunday (12th) at Loggerhead Park, Juno Beach. Here is the deal....if you have wanted to try SUP, have a SUP, want to meet people who SUP, come on by. We will set up our little blue beach tent, bring some coolers, ice, water, fruits, etc. down and enjoy the day. The am hours should have some left over small surf to enjoy. Hight tide is around 1:30 pm and the wind should be offshore all day. It does look like the wind will pick up out of the SW pretty strong late day so earlier the better would be the call. We will be located about 75 yards to the north of the guarded area at Loggerhead. Come on by and say hello. Now on the the "sales stuff" (we have to get it in somewhere). Deals are still on. We have plenty of NEW SUPs starting at $695.00 and always have 3 or 4 USED SUPs starting at $495.00. The deal of the month is as follows: Buy a NEW Synergy SUP at our Jupiter warehouse location from December 15th - 24th and get entered to win a $300 store credit. Those of you who are planning to buy multiple SUP, hang on and buy during this period. Your chances will be pretty good (1/10). We typically sell about 15 - 20 SUPs per month....so based on those sales stats, your odds are good to win the store credit. The winner will be announced at 1:00 pm December 24th. We will be closing at noon on the 24th so we can get some holiday things done! We hope that everyone enjoys this holiday season no matter how you celebrate it. We know that the holidays are unique in S. FL! We thank all of you for yoru support and great feedback. This year has been a great year for Florida Paddleboards and we look forward to an even better 2011! More about all that New Years stuff on next weeks blog! December 04, 2010, Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL The weekend is here and once again we have waves. Should be some fun SUPsurfing conditions this weekend with long period swell, off-shore winds and waist + surf. Lower tides in the afternoon will make for the best conditions once the sandbars start losing some water. We will be at Loggerhead (Juno) Sunday for some surf. If you are in the area, come on by and say hello. Some Sundays it is just us (wife & I) and some Sundays we have a crew. In any event, come on by and share some waves and chat. We normally walk to the north about 75 yards to stay clear of the guarded area. I for one am looking to burn myself out on some fun waves.....much needed therapy! So the weather has an appropriate holiday feel this past few days. It looks like it is here for another week or so with another cold shot around the 8th. Global warming? Last winter we had 2 months of cold temps and we are off to a cold start for December this year. We say cold by Florida standards and yes, cold is relative. Many of us that live here in South Florida have lived somewhere else that has real cold. The kind of cold that makes your face feel numb, the kind of cold that makes you question things, the kind of cold that makes your dog look back at your when he/she is going outside! Do you know that knd of cold? We lived in Maine for a few years and that was cold. I would surf year round no matter what the temperature was. I spent many days in the water when the air was in the teens, the wind was howling off-shore and I had to dodge ice chunks and slush in the shore-break. So many people questioned what I was doing in the water. Well....when you see perfect chest - head high waves and an emptly lineup, you just have to do it. Wetsuit technology has come along way! So, when we have air in the 40's & 50's first thing in the am, we do not have that much to complain about. Go to your local surf shop and invest in a wetsuit....looks like we are going to need one this winter. 20 days until Christmas..... Personally, I do not do much shopping or planning for shopping until t-minus 10 days or so. Come on by and we will accomodate your SUP needs for the holidays. Last minute shoppers? We will be open until 6:00 pm on the 24th. There are quite a few holiday themed events starting to happen in our area that incorporate the water. Check out the many SUP meetups our there on meetup.com Search for "paddle" or "SUP" and they will pop up. There is a holiday parade in Stuart today, a boat parade tonight in Jupiter and plenty of more things in the coming weeks. The gang over at Coastal Paddleboarding has a float in the Stuart holiday parade today and then a grand opening at their retail store on US 1 in Hobe Sound (4:00 pm to 7:00 pm). Come on out and check it out! We will be there after I log some wave time this afternoon.

Nobember 26th Update, Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL Well, day 2 of the "Blue Friday" SUP sales draws near and end. We have had a great turn-out! This means a handful of things to us....(1) SUP is speading, (2) dare I say the economy is coming alive?, (3) you are spending your money on healthy items that will actually bring you countless days of fun and lastly.....(4) our prices and equipment stand up against anything on the market. We still have a good selection, last count was about 25 SUPs in stock. We started this month with 40 + SUPs!!!!! We thank those of you who have purchased, borrowed, demo'd or just came by to look at our SUP line! We hope to see you on the water soon and come on by to demo a SYNERGY SUP. Once the "Blue Friday" SUP sale is over we will be offering a lay-a-way plan for those of you who are planning to buy for the holidays. 25% down will lock you in with the SUP of your choice. Lay-a-way starts 12-1-10. Your balance must be paid in full by 12-24-10. We will price protect your lay-a-way, meaning if that same SUP goes on sale at our warehouse before the 24th, we will honor the sale price! How is that for a safety net?
November 24th Update Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL Well our first day of the "Blue Friday" SUP Sale has come to a close. If turn-out on a Wednesday is any indication of what Friday and Saturday will bring......we may open a bit early on Friday (8:00 am). We welcome anyone to try the demos first to find what size Syngery SUP best suits you. We will update this at the end of the day Friday to keep you in the loop on inventory available. As of now (Wednesday evening), we have a good stock of 10'6" and 11'6" SUPs. We are down about 8 boards from this am though! SUP is exlpoading in our area and why not! It is 80+ degrees and it is Thanksgiving. The SALE DETAILS again..... Free Carbon Paddle & NO FL Sales Tax with any new SUP purchase. SUP, Deck Pad, Leash, Fins and Carbon Paddle!!! Deal of the year for sure!!!!! Please enjoy your families, friends and loved ones on Thanksgiving and be sure log some water time this coming weekend. It is going to be georgous. November 23rd Update Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL Are you ready for a SUP SALE? From what we are hearing you are. Many of you have been waiting for a complete package to get way under $1,000.........Well, now is the time. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday all our NEW SYNERGY SUPs will come with a FREE Carbon Paddle and we will eat the FL sales tax. You get a NEW SUP, Deck Pad, Leash, 3 piece fin set & Carbon Fiber Paddle for the price of a SUP. Deal? Come on in!
November 22nd update! Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL SUP PFDs and EZ Plugs are in (check the accessory tab on our Home Page). The SUP PFD thing is a boiling point for many paddlers. The USCG states that SUPs are vessels, hence you must have a personal floatation device on your SUP while in navigation waters. Summary......the intracoastal in our area. If you are at the beach, you are ok unless you are significantly past the surf zone (est. 100 yards off shore). Obviously the intent of the USCG is safety so be respectful of the rules on the waterwarys. There are some petitions out there to have this "vessel" status removed but I honestly do not see it happening. November 20th update-Saturday! Florida Paddleboards, Jupiter, FL Well the work week is over for most of us and the weekend is here. Once again, we have great weather for the weekend and decent size surf at our beaches in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. We plan on hitting the beach and SUPsurf Saturday afternoon and most of the day Sunday. These days I tend to have more fun on my SUP in the waves. I swore I would always be on a 6' thruster in any wave conditions. I have so much fun on my 10' SUP though in the waves. I still mix it up though and my fish and pintail are always in the truck. Many of you are aware that the Jupiter Fall Classic Surf competition is on for this weekend. Head on down to the beach in Jupiter to support some very talented surfers. More infor @ www.jupiterfallclassic.com Just some local observations in the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach area in the recent weeks. The fall colors have officially changed. Yes, the license plates! Pros and Cons in many of your minds as to the influx of people from the north. We live in paradise in my mind and everybody wants a slice of it. I know the food establishments and businesses in general like to see the winter season come. Good luck to all this winter season even if we have to put up with a few obnoxious folks in our region. Ok, maybe more than a few. So.....Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. Was it not just Halloween? Anyhow, I hear holiday music on the radio, all sorts of Christmas things at the stores, etc. Let's not forget about Thanksgiving and what we have to give thanks for. We are blessed to have great family and friends, our health, a supportive community and did I already mention a paradise setting? We also want to thank anyone who is serving or who has served our country. Well, this is our thanks! I personally could not live away from the ocean and the people that make up an ocean minded community. Growing up on Cape Cod put salt in my veins; I get weak as I head inland. As a kid, crossing the bridge "off Cape" as we called it always made me count the hours to when we were going back "on Cape". I think many of you know what I am speaking of. It is that feeling you get when you get to the beach. The feeling of looking over the dunes to see what the ocean looks like today or what you might see in the water.
Moving on to shameless marketing plugs.......
Black Friday, hmmmmmm, what are we to do? Well, we are a business and it is the end of the year and we are a retail establishment. Santa is kick'n it at the beach and said get on with a sale. As you can see from the photo, he is stoked. We decided to call it "Blue Friday". Blue as the ocean and sky are, we say go get in it! We want to make it easier for you to do it. Our "Blue Friday" deal will be starting Wednesday and going through Saturday. Wednesday starting at noon (November 24th), Friday (November 26th) & Saturday (November 27th) we will be offering a FREE Carbon SUP Paddle with any NEW SUP purchase. We will also be eating the FL Sales Tax. Some serious savings! "Deals of the week" previously posted in weeks past still stand if they are still posted. In other words, the $495 DEMO SUP is still here as of the time of this post. The "damaged" SUP is also still here. We cannot combine the "Blue Friday" discounts with "Deals of the week". In other words, you will not get a free paddle with that "damaged" 10'6" SUP for $600.00. Nice try! Well, you guessed it, the "Beach Day" is postponed to 11-28-10 due to surf conditions. The Facebook page will be updated shortly. We will be at Loggerhead surfing though if anyone wants to join. We love company as every Sunday is "Beach Day" for us.
November 17th update Link to a SUP party as ours (11-21-10) will more than likely be rescheduled to the following Sunday (11-28-10) due to a rough ocean. If you are in the Hobe Sound, Stuart or Port St. Lucie area, this should be a fun event to attend. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=164180426948335&index=1 We will more than likely be SUP surfing at Loggerhead Beach Park in Juno on the 21st, just not an organized event due to your safety! As always, we welcome those who have wave knowledge and experience to join us in the surf. Ideally, we want our beach day event to have seas less than <2 feet and fairly calm winds. More info on our "Beach Day Event" is posted on both meetup.com pages and our facebook page. We will update the meetup.com sites and Facebook page on Friday nights. Your interest in the beach day event has been very positive. Nice to live in sunny S. FL is it not?Our neighbors to the north are certainly not planning beach day events in November!
November 13, 2010. We will update our message board & Blog each week on Saturday mornings. We are expanding our SUP community each and every month. We welcome you to join our meetup websites for scheduled events in our region. Please check out the following SUP, SURF & PADDLE groups sponsored by Florida Paddleboards: http://www.meetup.com/Florida-Paddle-Boarding-Meetup-Group/ http://www.meetup.com/Palm-Beach-Paddle-Board-Group/ We are also typically at Loggerhead Beach Park in Juno Beach on any given Sunday. We hope to grow this location as a "hang out" for those who are into SUP & SURF our who want to demo equipment. We park out gear just to the north of the guarded area (about 75 yards). Send us an email on Saturday and we will let you know if we will be there..... info@flpaddleboards.com or (561) 281-3823 (Mike) Deal(s) of the week: Posted November 13th.... 10'6" x 30" x 4.75" $600.00 + tax. FL which means you can actually go out and exercise without pouring sweat the minute you start your workout. The water temperature is around 78 F currently, not too shabby! Cooler mornings call for a 1 ML top or full wetsuit if you are from Costa Rica! Sorry William Anzueto, I had to jab at you as all your recent photos have a full wetsuit on. For those of you who know William, you know he can take it. Keep up the stoke William. Find William on Facebook, he loves attention (jab #2!) Now for the waves.....we have them and we are into our winter waves season. 10 - 12' surf in Palm Beach County this weekend! Too bad our winds are not off-shore :( Early mornings will be the call before the north wind kicks up each day. Careful....this is REAL surf with long swell period in the 13 - 14 second range. In simple terms....you can get pounded with all that force! Expect the ocean to be more active through the next 3-4 months. In our opionion, this is a good thing. We love to SURF SUP. Jupiter and Juno are great for those of you who like to SUP SURF. Plenty of areas to spread out. Remember to stay away from the guarded areas, swimmers and of course have some surf etiquette. Dropping in on people, not using a leash and general disrespect for those around you are the easiest way to make for a bad time. The great thing about our area is that we have both intracoastal and direct ocean access in less than one mile in most spots of the county. Remember that you do need a PFD (personal floatation device) in the intracoastal. You do not have to wear it, just have it on your SUP. There is some debate as to if this safety rule will hold up and there are petitions out there. If the ocean is too rough, back it up and head over to the intracoastal...options are nice. If you want to check the ocean conditions before you head out, we use the following links: http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/jupiter-florida.html http://evsjupiter.netfirms.com/main.htm www.jupiterbeachpics.com (updated by 9:00 am each day) These links should give you a good idea on the wave height and winds before you go. If you need a little SUP SURF instruction, give us a call. We can arrange this for you. We usually are at the beach in Juno on Sundays (Loggerhead Park) playing in the ocean. Come on by and say hello. I (we) would be more than happy to help you out in the surf. Here is a shot at the inlet (one of the only spots you could paddle out Saturday afternoon)
